This barred spiral, NGC 1073, is a beautiful example of a barred spiral, like our own Milky Way. Off to the upper left you can see red shifted galaxies much more distant and older. According to the article, some scientists think that barred spirals are a sign that the galaxy has entered adulthood, as these bars tend to contain older, red stars rather than younger blue stars. Barred spirals are thought to form
